ABSTRACT. The rubber modified bitumen could reuse the waste tires, and it has a good function of high resilience and stability of high temperature. It can improve the strength of pavement, and counteract rutting and it has no reflection cracks. In the application of paving the concrete pavement, the rubber modified bitumen will reduce the thickness of asphalt and decrease the cost. Besides, it will increase the fatigue life of the surfacing, and reduce noise, meanwhile, it will benefit the environment protection.

An application of rubber modified asphalt in the mat coat project of highway S256 was introduced in this paper. From the design and tests of rubber asphalt mixture used in this project, it has been verified that rubber asphalt could meet all of the asphalt mixture requirements. Besides, from the comparation of rubber asphalt mixture and traditional asphalt mixture, it is reasonable to believe that rubber asphalt mixture have better performances in noise reduction, reflection cracks, rutting and other aspects. And rubber asphalt can also reduce the cost during the whole road life cycle.
