Description
In some cases current binder tests have specifications outside the range recycled materials can be used. As such properties must be evaluated directly in the mixes. One important property of binders and mixes is ELASTIC RECOVERY. This paper introduces a new test to determine the elastic recovery of mixes through torsional recovery. Thus, in this paper we analyse the ability of some asphalt mixtures (with different % of crumb rubber) to return to the initial position when subjected to a torsional moment. This test, where beams of mixes 380 x 50 x 50 mm are subjected to pure torsion), proved to be very efficient for the assessment of the mixture rheology and we present the results of the different recovery rates dependent on the percentage of incorporated crumb rubber.
