Based on tests for the properties of asphalt binder with different crumb rubber contents ranging from 5 to 35 percent, the influences of crumb rubber on penetration, softening point, ductility and temperature susceptibility of asphalt were all evaluated. Meanwhile strength and temperature stability of rubber asphalt mixture were also studied, proving that rubber modified asphalt binder has the fundamental mechanical properties of base asphalt and partial viscosity and plasticity of rubber. Their interaction improves the cohesiveness, temperature susceptibility and durability of base asphalt. This paper also introduces an improved production method of crumb rubber modified asphalt.
