Description
This paper describes the testing, production and paving of hot asphalt mixtures based on asphalt binders modified with crumb rubber (Asphalt Rubber) used in the Czech Republic by Skanska company in the years 2008 – 2011. The technical knowledge obtained from the application and testing of asphalt rubber hot mixtures and layers is introduced. The good performance of the asphalt rubber mixture for usage in the Stress Absorbing Layer (SAL) is presented. Methods for SAL assessment such as the bending tensile test and relaxation test are briefly described. Experience with the acoustic effects of different types of asphalt rubber mixtures is presented. Noise measurements of tire contact with the road were performed according to ISO/CD 11819-2 for different types of asphalt rubber layers and compared with the surfaces of various asphalt concretes. A testing method was verified for determining the binder content of an aliquot share. During the paving process, emissions of
volatile organic compounds VOC were monitored and compared with the requirements of European and Czech regulations. Methodical cooperation with Italian company Asphalt Rubber Italia s.r.I. including references is mentioned.
