Description

The matter “solid residues management” is a world tendency and, recently, it has been discussed thoroughly in Brazil. Among others, the useless tires discarded in an inadequate way cause a series of negative environmental impacts. Several usage of tire carcasses, such as the rubber addictions in asphalt for constructing highways, have been studied. One of the difficulties for the implementation of that technique in Brazil is the lack of reliability related to the socioeconomic viability of the rubber asphalt. This work evaluates, in a descriptive way, the environmental viability of the use of that technique. Besides that, makes a comparative analysis of the economic viability of the use of the conventional asphalt and of the rubber asphalt, considering the implementation costs and the maintenance expenses as indicators. For the analysis indicators as the Net Present Value – NPV and the Internal Rate of Return – IRR, are used. At the end, a sensibility analysis is performed. It’s objective is to reduce the uncertainties regarding the adopted values.
